MAKAYLA RESERVOIR ENLARGEMENT

The Makayla Reservoir project involved enlarging and lining an existing reservoir for the purpose of assisting with water treatment of coal-bed methane discharge.  The reservoir had initially been sited, surveyed, and permitted by Lowham Walsh staff.  Project deliverables included an as-builtsurvey of all features, a geotechnical investigation for slumping, design drawings of the outfall and reservoir, permit recommendations to the Operator for applicability under the State Engineer’s Office and Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ), liner and fencing recommendations and cost analysis, hazard analysis for the Wyoming State Engineer’s Office Safety of Dam’s Division, and construction oversight including nuclear density and moisture.

Timing of the project was of particular concern, with requirements that the project be completed prior to the winter of 2010.  Lowham Walsh staff coordinated permitting through the State, ensuring that all required notifications had been filed prior to commencement of construction.  The final as-builts were prepared for filing within one month of project completion.  The project was completed on time and on budget.
